About Saco River Farms
Saco River Farms is a family owned diversified farmstead and Natural Foods Market in Steep Falls, Maine.
We grow a variety of vegetables, fruit and herbs using deep organic methods while avoiding the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or GMO’s. Our produce is sold through our farm market and CSA.
We also raise:
- Nubian Goats for sale, milk, dairy and meat.
- Chickens & ducks for meat and eggs.
- Our own pasture raised pork.

Fresh, Healthy and Sustainable! We grow, produce and sell the foods we want to feed to our families and the foods we Love. We do our best to find a healthy balance of quality, freshness, goodness and cost. We believe strongly in knowing where the foods we eat come from and who made them.

Only Organic Produce
Sustainable Farming:
Our focus is on sustainable farming using “Deep Organic” techniques whenever possible. We believe that the use of chemical insecticides is detrimental to our farms, the environment and most importantly the people who consume our produce. Our vegetables and fruits are produced using only OMRI certified (or equivalent) organic products. In our efforts to offer a product which is truly organic, we use our own quality compost & manure as well as organic fertilizers. No chemical fertilizers are ever sprayed on our plants. The vegetables and fruits we grow are GMO free.
We aim to also be as sustainable and organic as possible in raising our animals, believing that healthy animals improve the quality of the meat, eggs, and dairy products we consume. In raising our animals we also consider value to be important. While our animals are not 100% organic, we aim to come as close as possible, while providing our customers with a healthy, sustainable product at reasonable prices. All our farm animal friends are fed a mix of quality Poulin Grain, locally produced hay and have free access to ample pasture space. We are concerned about PFAS and do our best to supply our animals with pasture, hay and grain from fields not exposed to dangerous “forever chemicals”.

At Saco River Farms, our primary mission is to serve our customers and communities by creating local, sustainable and resilient food networks, which deliver the highest quality, farm fresh products.
We strive to build strong customer relationships through trust and transparency while creating quality fulfilling jobs in the communities we serve. We develop trust and integrity within our organization, and extending to our customers, by upholding our core values.
Our aim is to produce the healthiest foods for our customers, while at the same time being mindful that we are stewards of the lands and resources that we use.
We’re not simply selling products, but our vision. A vision of fresh, healthy and sustainable food from our farm to their table. To capture the idea, that local is indeed practical and realistic. To bring sustainability and food security to our communities through a renewed sense of trust in the farmers who produce the foods we eat.

We choose to farm for a number of reasons:

Saco River Farms serves our community in in many ways. Providing sustainable, healthy, locally produced food, while teaching others to do the same.
While we strongly believe it is important to grow “real” food, we also see that we will never be able to meet that need alone. It is only through education that we hope to affect a truly positive change in our communities. It is our passion at Saco River Farms to grow a new generation of growers.
