What is Community Supported Agriculture?

With our CSA we offer you a partnership. You pay up front and get a broad variety of the freshest, in-season, locally grown organic produce direct from our farm. Prepaid sales provide start-up capital for us to begin the new season. Joining a CSA is a great way to ensure a healthy, delicious diet while supporting your local farm.

Your investment in our farm provides us with needed income to purchase inputs for raising our animals and produce, as well as developing new products! You are not only investing in us, but in the many local businesses we work with in the process of growing your food – you are truly investing in your community!

Examples of weekly shares:

Each year’s harvest is a little different, but here is a sample of the variety that will be offered over the CSA season:

Spring: Assorted Greens (Salad mix, Lettuce, Kale, Chard, Arugula, Spinach) Peas, Radish, Broccoli, Cabbage, Bok Choy, Scallions, herbs.

Summer: Basil, Herbs, Beans, Beets, Broccoli, Carrots, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Cabbage, Peppers, Zucchini

Fall: Beans, Beets, Carrots, Tomato, Greens, Broccoli, Cabbage, Winter Squash, Pumpkin, Turnip, Potatoes, Onions, Kale, Garlic, Lettuce

Standard CSA Shares

COVID 19 Disclaimer Notice: Due to the current crisis, Saco River Farms reserves the right to make substitutions, buy in produce, adjust the contract term, or cancel the 2021 CSA. In the event of cancellation by Saco River Farms, a prorated refund will be given. ALL CSA sales in 2021 are final and no substitutions of product will be made.

HOW IT WORKS

22 weekly pickups of farm fresh vegetables. Produce is prebagged for you based on seasonality & availability.
Pickup Location: 29 Weeman Rd, Steep Falls, Maine 04085
Pickup Times: Wednesday-Thursday 11am-6:30pm.
First Pickup 5/12/21 then weekly through Last Pickup 10/7/21

Share Options:

Single – This share should feed two adults with a mixed diet (4 – 6 Veggies per weekly pick-up). It is a great starter size as you get acquainted with the CSA model.
Full – Enough produce to feed two vegetarian adults or a family of four. 6 – 9 Veggies per weekly pick-up.

Flex Shares:

A completely customized, flexible investment in fresh, local eating!

Pay ahead of time in exchange for farm credit and receive an additional 5% bonus credit. ($400 prepayment minimum.)
You’ll receive Saco River Farms “Promise Bucks” which can be applied to purchase any of our products at the Farm Stand in Steep Falls, or our Mobile Farm Stand. (Promise Bucks have no expiration. Must be used in whole dollar increments, not redeemable for cash, but may be transferred, bartered, traded or sold.)

To determine how much to prepay, consider what your weekly purchases might consist of. Multiply that total by the number of weeks you desire. You may prepay monthly, quarterly, or annually, depending on what best fits your budget.

Our average CSA customers spend $15-30/week on produce. By joining our Flex Share CSA and prepaying $500, you could get $50 of FREE Promise Bucks” farm credits! Best of all, Promise Bucks never expire, and can be used at any time. Going on vacation, can’t make a pickup? No problem! Too much kale, ok grab some cheese instead or save the credit for next week. With Flex Shares you can spend your Saco River Farms “Promise Bucks” whenever you wish. Leave them in your purse or glove box and come by anytime you like.

Flex Shares are available for purchase in $50 increments ($400 minimum).

OPTIONAL: pre-order your weekly pickup & have it ready & waiting for you. Otherwise, first come, first served. Our chickens only lay so many eggs & there’s only so much milk in a goat!
