Saco River Farms Launches Model for Sustainability

Interactive Farmstead Learning Center Offers Hands-On Agricultural Training

 

Steep Falls, ME: Today, Saco River Farms, a diversified farm featuring micro goat dairy, organic produce and CSA, announced a campaign to launch an Interactive Farmstead Learning Center in Southern Maine. A fundraising campaign has just launched at Kickstarter.com to put the finishing touches on the project which has been in the works since 2010. Working in partnership with Field of Zion International, Inc., a Maine 501c3 nonprofit, Saco River Farms will promote sustainable agriculture at it’s working demonstration farm in Steep Falls. The Interactive Farmstead Learning Center will feature a host of exhibits in areas such as alternative energy, sustainable small scale livestock and organic farming, with a focus on local production.  Tours, open houses, workshops and internships will be available for anyone interested in learning how to live more sustainably.

In regards to the campaign launch on Kickstarter.com, Mark Bevan, Owner of Saco River Farms said this,

“While we strongly believe in the importance of growing healthy, sustainable, locally produced food, we are also aware that we will never be able to meet that need alone. It is only through education, that we hope to affect a truly positive change in our communities! Our passion at Saco River Farms is to Grow a New Generation of Growers. For this reason, we are reaching out and asking for your help to finish our Interactive Farmstead Learning Center at Saco River Farms.”
